Most people believe love is the only thing needed in marriage; I beg to disagree.
I had emphasised in my previous article – Relationship Arising: Raising Your Dream Family ; for a successful marriage to take, it takes conscientious efforts of the two partners.
In Marriage, complications may arise due to individual differences and personal preferences. If certain qualities aren’t availed, they can escalate to fights which could breakdown the home.
Hence, journey with me as I reveal tips that should make marriage work effectively:
- Friendship: This is one of the vehicles that keep the marriage going. Before you settle down with that person (aside the love you have for them), there is a need to check if you are friends. What I mean in essence is, can you sit with that person and discuss freely the way you talk with your friends? can you talk for 1 hour straight and you won’t feel uncomfortable? can you tolerate his or her behavior? How fast do you resolve your differences? How well do you know your partner?
- Communication: You start to enjoy your marriage when your partner sees you as someone intelligent enough to discuss issues with. Someone might say of course, I am intelligent. But the truth is some partners prefer to talk to their friends about the challenges they are facing either from work or elsewhere. Now if they can’t discuss this little things with each other what are they going to talk about? Your spouse comes back home with a long face and is not ready to talk about it. Such attitude makes one feel unwanted and if it continues it can break the marriage.
- Trust: I always tell people, do not marry someone you don’t trust. Lack of trust breaks a home. It makes the home void of peace and happiness. It gives room to hatred and anger. You shouldn’t give your partner a chance to doubt your faithfulness. Being faithful has a lot of benefits to you as a person aside your home.
- Love: Love is a beautiful thing. If you love your partner you will overlook their wrongs and forgive. Love helps to build bond between partners. Don’t ever overlook the power of love. The moment you remove love from your home you literally becomes neighbors. Nobody cares about the other person.
The responsibility to keep a home rest on the shoulder of the people involved. Do not think it is the responsibility of your wife because you fend for the family.
Do not shut your partner always welcome their point of view, do not make them look like a fool when they are trying to bond with you. Always show your partner that you love and care.
