Mr Kashifu Inuwa, Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has pledged to support the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) with ICT training and capacity building of its indigenes.

Inuwa made the pledge as he received officials of AMAC, led by the AMAC Chairman, Mr Abdullah Candido, in his office in Abuja.

He said that the agency had always been open to collaborations from different sectors and been involved in several intervention programmers for various sectors, both in the rural and urban areas of the country.

According to him, the agency is doing all it could to ensure that President Muhammadu Buhari’s target to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty was realised through the efforts of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the government.

In doing this, Inuwa said the agency has embarked on several intervention programmes through empowerment in the six geo-political zones of the country, providing training in digital skills and assisting in digital capacity building.

He explained that NITDA has created several ICT centers and hubs, supported ICT startups and done many more interventions which degenerated to job creation.

“Collaboration with your council, AMAC, is equal to fulfilling our mandates.

“Part of the agency’s mandate is to ensure that digital skills and empowerment get to the communities especially the grassroots and the underserved.

“The visit is good and timely and we can work together to achieve optimum success in those areas,” he said.
In his response, Candido said that the primary purpose of their visit is to enable his council share in the knowledge of ICT through the agency.

“We are here to share knowledge and tap on the advantage of what is ruling the world at the moment which is technology.

“The agency’s support in the area of ICT is to enable the AMAC community grow in line with modern technology and digital trends,” the Chairman of AMAC said.

Candido added that AMAC was doing all it could to make things different for its people by not just giving fertilizers to farmers but also by bringing new ideas and innovations such as creating ICT centers for AMAC communities to learn digital skills.

According to him, people learning skills would allow for adequate and prompt information dissemination through the community radio to the people.

He also expressed optimism that the council and its ICT centres would get the best in IT innovations and empowerment.
