Friends are vital in our lives: They give us beautiful memories and good moments.

Do you want to make at least a friend before the year runs out? Learn to do things for the benefit of others. Remember everyone is important and likes compliments and appreciations.

According to the book how to win friends and influence people, there are 6 principals to follow in order to make friends and influence people. There are:

Don’t complain, condemn and criticize

No one likes to live with someone who complains about the smallest mistake. No one loves o be condemned or criticised about what they do or say. Everyone craves to be appreciated and loves to be important.

To make friends, we should always remember that people are different in personality ,ethics, beliefs e.t.c. Therefore, accepting them as they are would lead to the close relationship called friendship.

Become genuinely interested in people

When making a friend, always be interested in the person and their affairs but don’t indulge to much to avoid trouble. Ask questions like “How is your football practice going?”

The only way to get the best out of an argument is to avoid it

In every relationship, there is disagreement due to our different personality and ways of understanding situations. To make an everlasting friendship, argument should be avoided.

We should instead learn to understand each other perspective on the subject and agree on the best solution instead.

Begin with praise and honest appreciation

Everyone likes to be praised and appreciated even for the smallest achievement. Friends need to be praised when they achieve their goal and appreciated when they do the smallest things for us.

Call attention to people’s mistake indirectly

Truth hurts. No one likes their fault to be pinpointed at their face. Friends also make mistakes and to correct their fault, we should indirectly call their attention to it than to paint it on their face.

For example instead of saying”Anna you are lying” we should say”Anna I don’t think that’s true”, it would make the other person feel comfortable and listen to correct their mistake.

Talk about your mistake before criticising the other person

No one is perfect and we all are capable of making mistakes. Therefore,to make friends we should think about our mistakes and put ourselves in other people shoe before criticizing their deeds.

Remember, choose your friend wisely and not otherwise because friends are not just individuals to hang out with; they are also memories to be kept for life.

Alfred Alder stated that “It is the individual who is not interested in his fellow men who has the greatest difficulties in life and provide injury to others. It is from among this individual that all human failure spring.
