Abeg App is a peer-to-peer payment app where users can send and receive money, request funds, spilt bills, and create and join giveaways.
The app claims that its services are fast, easy, and fun (outlined by their Play Store description).
It stated that it is focused on making the life of its users “soft”, as sending money no longer requires an account number, but instead, an abegtag (a username).
Notwithstanding the negative reviews the app has garnered in recent times, it has essential features that can ease financial services, but It isn’t living up to its potential.
The Abeg App, currently rated 2.8, with 1 stars leading the pack, has several issues (or bugs) that it needs to address before it phases out of market.
Going through the reviews by rather agitated users, one could observe that most are concerned with Airtime purchases, Withdrawal Disability (“WITHDRAWALS HAVE BEEN TEMPORARILY DISABLED.”), and Login/Registration Issues.
For an app that was recently launched (2019), the general reception isn’t encouraging. One would expect that (as the saying goes, new brooms sweep clean) abeg app in its novelty should be well received with positive reviews, but such is not the case.
Should a user joins and is met several challenges, they would endeavour as much as possible to recover whatever funds they have invested in it, then after removing the app, they give negative feedbacks.
Moreover, the market for online financial services is booming, which means that, not too long, someone can create a “worked upon” version of abeg app, then seize all its users.
Should abeg technologies refuse to address the prevailing cries of its users, they would be inadvertently creating a bad image for themselves, which in the nearest future can be their undoing.
The impression the Abeg App would generate outside Nigeria is significant ( as it is a Nigerian-made product, “abeg”, named in pidgin, meaning please). Although, the market is majorly for Nigerians, the pidgin name would mean that it’s so local to address lowlife people. But, if the app performs well, it won’t be something so shameful.
Hence, management of Abeg Technologies need to address the issues facing it’s app, to avoid the unimaginable worst, as well as that facing locally-made named software in Nigeria.
