It is beyond doubt or argument that our way of living directly and indirectly influences our health. Due to this, it is required of us to be conscious of our lifestyle as this can cause healthy mind, healthy body and longevity of life.
Here are 6 important ways to manage your lifestyle and live healthier this year!
Hygienic environment
This is highly important in promoting health through prevention of human contact with hazards related with lack of healthy food, clean water and healthful housing. Hygienic environment discourages the breeding of pathogens and pests, thus reducing the chances of illnesses like malaria, sleeping sickness and chronic diseases like lassa fever and dengue fever.
Personal hygiene is also very important in preventing many infectious diseases, likewise in preventing the spread of diseases to others.
The importance of proper sanitation, personal hygiene and maintenance of clean environment in preventing of diseases and ensuring healthy living can never be overemphasized.
Eating healthy
Aside clean environment for feeding, balanced diet is essential in ensuing an illness-free life. So next time, endeavor to balance your favorite cereal diet with low-fat milk.
Consume less processed foods, more low glycemic-index foods, more dietary fibers, vegetables and fruits. Fat sources should be major from plants rather animals.
Fat from plant sources, like olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, peanut oil, avocado oil, etc , are unsaturated fats essential for healthy living. However, margarine, butter and fat from animal sources are saturated fats and are highly discouraged.
Regular exercise
Undeniably, regular exercise is good for all age groups. Exercise is important in maintaining physical fitness and this help to prevent whole lots of diseases, thereby improving health and longevity of life.
It is good for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal disorder in aging and chronic diseases like cancer. Likewise, it is good for prevention of depression and tension, alleviation of anxiety and improvement of sleeping pattern.
Arguably, exercise influences lifestyle changes in that regular exercisers smoke less, sick less and eat less fat than non-exercisers. Regular exercisers are selective and conscious about their health. They have better weight control, they are self disciplined subgroup of the population
Exercise can increase the remaining health of a sick person. It is as good for the sick and disabled as it is for the healthy.
Weight management
Overweight or obesity increases more than just the weight, it increases the risk of major health problems like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, stroke, cancer, depression and lots more.
It could be due to genetic predisposition, diet or sedentary lifestyle. Therefore, the importance of weight management in healthy living cannot be overlooked. This can be done through regular exercise and eating healthy, eating more dietary fiber, vegetables and fruits, less carbonated and sugary foods, less bad (saturated) fat and more good (unsaturated) fat.
Regular medical checkups
I’m quite sure most people are guilty of this. However, this is important to keep track of one’s health and detect diseases early on. You may not be necessarily sick before you go for a check up. There is a routine test conducted by medical professionals to assess an individual’s health, and this act may help to prevent many diseases through medical advice and can reduce healthcare costs over the time.
Not ignoring medical instructions
Some people, especially in this part of the world tend to be negligent towards medical instructions. Maintaining an hygienic environment, eating healthy, regular exercise, weight management and going for regular medical check up, these are medical advices that should not be overlooked.
