Mafab Communications recently paid to acquire its 5G Licence, which it won with MTN in December 2021, during an auction by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof Umar Danbatta confirmed in a statement made available to Geeky Nigeria that MAFAB has finally paid.
“I wish to officially announce that NCC has received and confirmed payments from MTN and Mafab for their acquisition of 1 slot of 100Mhz each in the 3.5Ghz spectrum auction, which was successfully conducted by the Commission on December 13, 2021. They both met the deadline of February 24, 2022 as set by the Commission,” the EVC said
Mafab paid $273.6m to acquire a slot of 100Mhz, for the 3.5Ghz 5G Spectrum., which was also paid for by MTN.
Geeky Nigeria reports that majority of 5g networks in Nigeria will rely on spectrum in the 3.5 GHz range (C – band)., which offers an excellent mixture of coverage and capacity benefits.
The 3.5Ghz spectrum has been regarded by 5G vendors as the basis for the first implementations of 5G globally, as it has the features of both low and high bands, and covers more distance that high band.
