After meeting with National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja last night, the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) extended the warning strike by 2 months due to a lack of agreement to their demands by the Federal Government.
Recall that the strike began on Monday, 14th of February 2022 with ASUU declaring a one month warning strike with hopes that Federal Government will attend to their demands.
Geeky Nigeria gathered that the strike began due to failure by the Federal government to implement earlier spelt out agreements that would improve the quality of the educational system of the country.
According to an ASUU official, Professor AbdulKadir Muhammad Danbazu, the decision to extend the strike was to give the Government enough time to take necessary actions as as to avoid more strikes in the future.
While the reason for extending the strike hasn’t been made public yet, certain factors are likely to come into play such as the recent refutation by ASUU on the allegation of failed UTAS Integrity test.
Geeky Nigeria reports that ASUU has staged 15 strikes since the country returned to Democracy. This decision continually puts the educational system in chaos, leaving the students and parents in frustration. But the Union believes that “Strike is the only language the Government understands”.
