Recently, a cult clash between members of Eiye and Aiye confraternities have reportedly killed eight persons in Sagamu, Ogun State.
The new cult war, which began on Sunday, was the buildup of a clash where seven person were killed in various parts of Abeokuta few days ago. It has become what the peaceful residents of Sagamu and Abeokuta dread, as they go about their activities during the day, and especially at Night.
Around February, three people were grimly killed in Oja Ijoko area of Sango, Ogun State, when cultists, suspected to be members of Alora and Aiye confraternity groups fought a battle for supremacy.
Due to the cult clash, residents of Onipesi street, had been living in fear of being targeted by the cultists, which led to most shops closing early when the dark hours are approaching. Several residents of Oja Ijoko have affirmed that Sango and its environs are dominated by cultists that also engage in criminal activities such as armed robbery, car hijacking, among others.
If anyone had told Tommy, a popular ‘area boy’ in Abeokuta, that he would not live to see the next morning, he would probably have descended on such person.
On the night of March 24, Tommy had left his residence at Oluwo to Panseke to buy food for dinner, when unknown to him, some thugs suspected to be cultists, stormed the place and pounced on him.
He was, according to eye-witnesses, dealt several machete cuts by the cultists, and after they finished cutting him, they waited to confirm he was dead before leaving – deceased Tommy was an unfortunate target of the cultists.
After the incident, many Oluwo residents become engorged with fear, as majority of them had to desert their homes.
It is worth mentioning now that cultists often target persons they deem a threat. Certain people fall under their radar especially because they have the most connections or have been in the crosshairs of a vengeful person, who in bid to demonstrate supremacy, contract the cultists.
Trending is the recent killing of eight persons in Sagamu, which various reports suggest was the follow-up of the murder of Tommy.
On Sunday evening, March 27, residents in Panseke, Onikolobo, Oluwo, Adigbe fled for their lives as gunshots rent the air.Although the police assured that 18 persons have been arrested, order is yet to restored, as the cult clash has extended to Sagamu, Ogun state.
