PHED Denounces Attacks On Electrical Infrastructure

Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) has denounced the continuous attacks on its electricity facilities by motorists and vandals.

It calls on the general public to help protect electrical infrastructures by reporting activities of persons and corporate organisations that can disrupt stable power supply.

According to PHED, electrical installations in Onne, were destroyed, by three freight haulage trucks conveying goods from the Port Terminal on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 on their way to Enugu State en route Igbo Etche.

It was later revealed in a statement by PHED that the three haulage vehicles belonged to Gosconsa Nigeria Limited.

“It is quite regrettable that Gosconsa Nigeria Limited has irresponsibly destroyed electrical assets worth millions of naira in a bid to escape laid down procedures, yet provided military escort for their haulage. Unbelievably, the company claimed to have obtained a haulage permit from sources unknown to PHED.

“The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution is using this opportunity to call on the general public to help protect critical electricity infrastructures by ensuring that activities of persons and corporate organisations whose actions are detrimental to the stable power supply are brought to the knowledge of the relevant authorities” the statement read.

In a public announcement, dated April 10, 2022, The management of PHED informed customers that a tower located at Itu LGA of Akwa Ibom State had collapsed, due to vandals that attacked a Transmission Line.

“The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) Plc, wishes inform our esteemed customers in Cross Rivers State that due the attack by vandals on a TCN 330KV transmission line Odukpani/lkot Ekpene, the Tower, T104 at Oku lboku in Itu Loc Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has collapsed.

“The action of the vandals has affected the flow of power from the national grid to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution network thereby disrupting power supply to our customers in Cross Rivers State.

“We hereby apologise to our customers who are cut off from power supply for the inconveniences,” the statement noted.
