The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is accepting appplications for its Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) for Early-Stage Startups.
The programme, according to UNIDO, will promote cleantech innovation and entrepreneurship to address urgent environmental challenges.
A key partner for GCIP is the Global Environment Facility (GEF) as well as the Green Climate Fund and other bilateral partners.
UNIDO revealed via a press release that the programme was due to problematic climate change, which affects everyone globally, and requires urgent action.
“While cleantech SMEs have limitless potential for new innovative ideas, they often find it difficult to bring their solutions to market. They encounter serious barriers to business and technology development, referred to as “valley of death”, that they have to cross to ensure traction, growth and scale-up.
“To bridge the ‘valley of death’. GCIP brings about transformative change through two main interventions: (1) direct support to emerging SMEs offering innovative cleantech solutions and (2) development and strengthening of cleantech innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems (CIEEs),”
The GCIP is open to all Nigerian based cleantech startups and innovators. The startups should have an already developed innovative technology-based product (prototype or an existing solution in the market).
The solution should under any of the following cleantech categories with particular attention to solutions that improve energy access in underserved regions: Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Waste Beneficiation, Green, Buildings, Transportation, Advanced Materials and Chemicals, A well-rounded and committed team with complementary skills.
