Airtel Africa has made a significant stride in transforming education across the continent through its five-year partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Launched in 2021, this partnership has connected over 1,500 schools to the Internet, trained 17,000 teachers, and reached nearly a million learners with quality digital education resources across 13 African countries.
Airtel Africa’s commitment to this partnership is part of its $57 million investment aimed at supporting the development of education and bridging the digital divide for vulnerable children in remote communities.
Airtel Africa has prioritised making online learning resources accessible, including zero-rated educational platforms and teacher training, to support equitable learning opportunities for Africa’s children.
Speaking on the success of the partnership, Airtel Africa CEO, Sunil Taldar, emphasized the profound impact that connectivity and digital resources can have on Africa’s children and teachers.
He noted that by equipping schools with internet connectivity and training teachers, Airtel Africa and UNICEF are providing Africa’s children with the digital tools and skills they need to thrive in a technology-driven world.
The partnership has expanded digital learning to learners in 13 countries, including Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. This initiative is a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and advancing educational equality in Africa.
