The University of Ilorin has appointed Prof. Wahab Egbewole as its new vice-chancellor (VC)
The announcement was made by the Mallam Abidu Yazid, the pro-chancellor of the UNILORIN and the chairman of the institution’s governing council.
According to the council, Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), a professor of law and jurisprudence, will serve as the institution’s next vice-chancellor, following the conclusion of Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem’s term as Vice-Chancellor on October 15, 2022.
On the choice of candidate, The head of the Unilorin council said in a statement made available to Geeky Nigeria that the new vice chancellor has been with the university for the past 25 years.
“According to the laws of this university, the University of Ilorin CAP U7 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, the current vice-chancellor’s tenure is set to expire on the 15th of October 2022, and the council of the university began the process of appointing a new vice chancellor as early as March 2022.
“We advertised for applicants both nationally and on our website. This endeavour resulted in the submission of 29 applications.
“However, even before the results were in, we launched a unique search procedure in which we contacted no fewer than 56 people at universities and other institutions both at home and abroad.
“In the end, we selected 13 people who met our criteria and other requirements.
“We specifically sought candidates who would support and be sympathetic to the needs of our students, interface and work smoothly with other faculty members, be mindful of the needs and aspirations of our host community, and who, in our opinion, would be truly concerned about the university’s progress and our responsibility to our nation.” the council said.
