With a bleeding heart, it is apparent that the future of our country has been trampled upon.
Our education is at stake, but the government are showing little concern. The little they perform behind closed doors is always unproductive.
What legacy is Nigeria keeping? We asked for reformation but all we see is an in-depth destruction and total violation of our right to education
In the year 1999, the strike lasted for 5 months, 2001- lasted for 3 months, 2002- 2 weeks, 2003-6 months, 2005- 2 weeks, 2006- 3 days, 2007-3 months, 2008-1 week, 2009-4 month, 2010-5months, 2011-59 days, 2013- 5 months, 2017-1 month, 2018-3 month, 2020- 9 months, 2022- 7 months and still counting.
These incessant strikes are in response to the government’s refusal to uphold their signed agreements. If you can run down the history of this country till date, the wicked, dubious and heartless government don’t see education as a priority which is bad and disheartening.
Does the government think EDUCATION is a PRIVILEGE? no wonder our rights are being violated and have been entrenched. Right to education is in Section 18 under chapter II with Fundamental Objectives and Directives Principle of State Policy.
The negative effect of this strike is doing more harm than good. On behalf of the students affected by the strike, we all call for urgency to our educational system. I glanced through a research I made earlier today and I was marveled by the huge amounts of millions the electoral candidates use to purchase forms, the fix cost of nomination forms for president for APC is 100 million ($240,884), governorship 50 million ($85,470), Senate 20 million($34,188), House of Representatives 10 million($17,094), State Assembly 2million($3,418) while the opponent party PDP pegged 40 million($68,376), cost of presidential form, 21 million($35,897) for governorship, ,3.5million( $5,982), for senate 2.5 million($4,273) for House of Representatives and 1.5 million ($2,564) for state House of Representatives.
I can’t even calculate the above amount because this election is taken place by next year and the forms have been purchased by the respective candidate of all the existing parties in Nigeria. It’s so absurd that the issue of education that needs to be settled has been neglected. The system is so corrupt and filled with selfish people in offices that they are blindfolded to see that education has to be given top priority.
Revitalisation of public universities, deserved allowance, improvement funding of state and federal universities and promotion arrears is all the union wants. Is it so hard? We talk about the redundant growth of the nation, this is the exact reason why they is little or no progress in Nigeria system. Youths have taken to the street to do things that can’t be comprehended by anyone because they believe that’s the best way. The death rate, depression, suicide and smuggling today has increased to a very high degree.
The top government officials are not feeling this pain because they have become heartless and selfish to the extent that everything considering education is not in there dictionary. Majority of our leaders take there children out of the country to study so the educational system of this so-called Giant of Africa will not affect them.
The least of them take their children to the private institution. I am ashamed of our country ,how will our neighbouring countries look at us? What picture do they have in their mindset about Nigeria?. And they will expect that the youth of today will vote on the day of election. What is their assurance that the next leader will lead us forward, because everything is transparent and we can all see the this is a one man’s country.
Each of us are on our own, even graduates of today still find it hard to get a job except they have a vocational skill. I don’t think the meaning of democracy is applicable to the Nigerian government because we have categories of people that are above the law, which are the selfish government. I was watching a video two days ago and I saw a lady (within the age of 23-25) trying to jump into the Lagoon, thank God for the cautiousness and alertness of a drivers, they had to stop her.
She cried saying she was tired of the economy of Nigeria and she was tired of everything. I studied the girl and she looks like a final year student or a pen-ultimate student. Are we babies? All the meetings have never ended on a good ground. A lot of students’ accommodation has expired, foodstuffs have spoilt and other bills have expired. Where is the money for renewal?
On a final note, we all plea for the government to meet the needs of ASSU and grant the leaders of tomorrow the zeal to use their right without been violated or entrenched.
