It is less than 2 days to the presidential election, and preparations are in top gear.
As we pray for a hitch-free election, we also have our roles as eligible voters.
Our duty at Geeky Nigeria is to provide you with timely and valuable information on how to stay safe. At the same time, you go about your civic responsibility.
On Saturday, February 25, accreditation and voting will begin at the same time, at 8:30 am and close at 2:30 pm.
Through fingerprints and facials, registered voters will be accredited using the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS). At 2:30 pm, all voters in the queue should have been accredited and ready to vote.
These simple steps will prepare and guide you for the election.
STEP 01
Before Election Day, knowing your voter’s eligibility status is important. Check yours immediately through the INEC official website.
At the Polling Unit, you can also check to confirm your name on the voter register pasted at the polling unit to ensure you are at the correct polling unit. You can only vote at the polling unit within which your name falls.
STEP 02
Once you confirm that you are in the correct polling unit, join the queue for accreditation. An INEC official will use the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS), either by fingerprint or facials.
STEP 03
Once the INEC official has accredited you, your name will be ticked on the voter register, and your finger will be inked to confirm accreditation and voting.
Next, you will receive a stamped, signed and endorsed ballot paper with the printed side rolled inwards. You can get more directions to the voting cubicle to cast your vote.
STEP 04
At the cubicle, voting ink will be available to stain your thumb. Then place the stained thumb in the plain box on the ballot paper, right in front of the party logo you are voting, for your preferred candidate.
Ensure that the ink does not spill across another party’s line; otherwise, your vote will not be valid. Before you fold the ballot paper, ensure that the ink is dry.
STEP 05
As you leave the cubicle, please go ahead and go to the ballot box provided in the polling unit and drop the ballot paper into the box.
STEP 06
After voting, stay away from the polling unit or leave entirely. If you wait until the voting process is over and election results are declared; keep a reasonable distance from the polling unit.
After the election, you can view real-time results from polling units on the INEC portal.
Remember, voting is your civic responsibility as a Nigerian, and nothing should stop you from playing your part to ensure we have the Nigeria of our dreams.
