Nokia has announced the launch of the world’s first 5G-enabled 360° camera, specifically designed for industrial usage.
This innovative camera is built to withstand harsh industrial conditions, boasting cyber-secure software and built-in security hardware.
The result of extensive Nokia multimedia research, this camera showcases numerous groundbreaking innovations.
Key Features and Benefits
The Nokia 360 Camera is waterproof (IP67) and shock-resistant, delivering 8K streaming with low-latency, high-resolution 360° video, and spatial audio over 5G, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet. This versatility enables various usage scenarios, minimizing the need for traditional cameras at industrial sites and entertainment events. Two variants are available: the Nokia 360 Camera (Wi-Fi) for cost-efficient 8K streaming and the Nokia 5G 360 Camera – Extreme Temperature for deployment in extreme temperatures.
Real-Time Remote-Control Usage
The camera’s ability to transmit video and audio over private and public wireless networks enables real-time remote-control usage. This capability reduces the risk of accidents, increases reliability, and boosts operational efficiency.
When paired with Nokia’s Real-time eXtended Reality Multimedia (RXRM) software solution, the camera provides a comprehensive end-to-end solution for customers seeking real-time remote use cases.
Immersive Experiences and Industrial Applications
Nokia RXRM offers extensive APIs for customer AI platforms, enabling analytics, overlays, extended reality, and innovative features on top of immersive live video.
The technology increases the accuracy of what users see through near-instant, ultra-HD content streaming, providing truly immersive experiences.
These experiences redefine collaboration in industrial contexts, making processes safer, faster, and more cost-efficient.
Customer Adoption and Feedback
Callio Pyhäjärvi, a Finnish company, has adopted RXRM technology, repurposing Europe’s deepest mine into a multidisciplinary operating environment for R&D, remote operations, training, and technological innovation.
According to Sakari Nokela, Chief Development Officer, “The Nokia 5G 360 Camera addresses a critical gap in the market, offering trusted product reliability and security for demanding industrial use cases.”
Nokia’s Commitment to Innovation
Sami Ranta, General Manager, RXRM, Nokia, emphasized, “Nokia RXRM enhances business processes, saving costs from product support to field operations.
The 5G-enabled industrial camera completes our solution for real-time remote use cases.” Nokia continues to pioneer networks that sense, think, and act, leveraging its work across mobile, fixed, and cloud networks.
