Aremo lived in a town called Koso. He was just an ordinary boy in the village, but he had something special, which was playing the drum like no one else.
While his friends and other children were running and playing around, climbing trees, or playing football, Aremo would sit under a tree with a drum.
He made the drum by himself using wood and goat skin. The sound that came from him beating the drum (rhythms) were sweet and exciting.
Just like how you may enjoy drawing, singing, reading, or dancing, Aremo loved drumming. It was his special thing!
This tells you that, “Everyone has a talent; something they enjoy and do well.”
One evening, during a full moon, Aremo walked quietly into the forest with his handmade drum. He sat under a tall tree and began to drum slowly and softly.
Suddenly, the wind blew through the leaves, and voices whispered in the air. The ancestral spirits appeared. They were shining and glowing, they looked so peaceful, and dressed in white. They started dancing slowly in a circle around Aremo!
Have you ever done anything so spectacular that you got extremely surprised and proud of yourself? That’s how Aremo felt when he saw the ancestral spirits. He was a little afraid, but he felt very proud!
This teaches that, “When you use your talent with confidence and a pure heart, great and amazing things can happen!”
When Aremo saw the sprits, he remembered something his mother always told him:
“If you use your gift to bless others, you are never alone.”
So, Aremo kept playing.
The oldest spirit stepped forward and touched Aremo gently.
“You have the heart of Sango, the god of thunder. Don’t ever be ashamed of your gift,” he said.
From that day, Aremo was called “The Spirit Drummer.” People respected him, and the king invited him to play in the palace.
Sometimes you may get shy or scared about reading out loud or answer questions in class. But when you do it bravely like Aremo, you will surely shine!
Aremo teaches you to be proud of who you are. Whether it’s reading, painting, dancing, talking, acting or singing, your talent can open doors of opportunities for you. Use it wisely, and don’t be afraid to share it.
