Here are the key results in matchweek 36

Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea
The match had barely started when Ryan put Liverpool ahead at 6’!. However, by the 35th minute, Fernandez equalised. This draw at Anfield further thinned Liverpool’s hope for the title race.
According to an article on The Athletic, “Liverpool has lost 11 Premier League games this season, their most since 2014-15, and 18 in all competitions, the worst tally since 2009-10.”
They remain in 4th position, the same as Aston Villa. However, they are one point ahead. Now they need three more points in their upcoming games to secure a top-five finish.
For the Blues, that was the 6th consecutive defeat under the new coach. They currently sit in 9th place with 49 points. There’s no spot for them again in the EPL top four.
However, they could secure a place in the Europa Conference League. This also depends on their performance in the upcoming fixtures.
Sunderland 0-0 Man Ltd
On Saturday, at the Stadium of Light, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. While Sunderland is sitting mid-table, United was just one point away from securing a place in the top three.
Sunderland’s Lutsharel Geertruida came close to breaking the deadlock. However, almost isn’t the same as scoring a goal.
A review on the Premier League website reports that Man United is 6 points ahead of Liverpool and 7 points ahead of Aston Villa. They are also 1 point away from finishing third. Sunderland is off relegation.
Fulham 0-1 Bournemouth
In matchweek 36, Bournemouth extended their unbeaten record to 16 matches with their 1-0 victory over Fulham. The ball hit the net at 53’. Rayan sent the ball from about 20 yards away.
This win solidified Bournemouth’s 6th place. However, for Fulham, it ended their chances of European qualification.
Brighton 3-0 Wolves
This match was notably interesting. Just 35 seconds into the game, Brighton scored. Lewis doubled it with a header by 53’ and they sealed it at 86’.
Wolves, already occupying the bottom position, struggled throughout the game. They registered two shots in the second half. For Brighton, this win means they are now occupying the 7th position, two points away from Bournemouth.

Man City 3-0 Brentford
At Etihad Stadium, Man City delivered a clinical 3-0 victory over Brentford. This came after a goalless first half. What does this mean for both clubs? City secured three points, culminating in a total of 74 points.
This sets them 5 points behind the leading club, Arsenal. Winning the title race is still viable even though it will be a tough one.
If they can secure a victory in their game in hand and the final two matches, they’ll be a strong competition for Arsenal. The Bees are sitting in the 8th position with 51 points.
Sunday, May 10
Burnley 2-2 Aston Villa
Burnley’s Jaidon Anthony opened the scoring at the 8th minute. At 42’, Villa equalised with a header from John McGinn. At 56’ Villa scored again and by 59’ Burnley equalised.
Burnley, already relegated, earned their first point since March. Nonetheless, for Aston Villa, they are still in the 6th position.
To secure a spot in the first 5 positions, they’ll need to win their next fixtures against Liverpool and Man City.
Nottingham Forest 1-1 Newcastle
This draw secured Forest’s PL spot for the next season. With two games left, they are 7 points off relegation. Unfortunately, for Newcastle, it’s more disastrous. Their chances of European qualification are over now.
ESPN report described it as “another disappointing afternoon for Newcastle…as their hope for European qualification was damaged.”
Crystal Palace 2-2 Everton
At Selhurst Park on Sunday, the game ended as an interesting draw. Although Everton controlled the game and even took the lead twice, Palace wasn’t ready to succumb to defeat.
For Everton, their hope for European qualification is hanging by a thin thread. They are now six points behind Bournemouth. The counterparts Crystal Palace, are at the 14th position with a game in hand.
West Ham 0-1 Arsenal
Arsenal beat West Ham with a late VAR ruling. This was a tense win which came after a tough fight at 83’. A report on ESPN described it as a scar!. The Gunners restored their 5-point lead.
It also brought them closer to winning the title race for the first time after 22 years. They are only two wins away. For some, victory is sure for Arsenal.
According to The Standard, “all that stands between them and the title is a visit from relegated Burnley and a trip to a Crystal Palace side who will be focused on their Conference League final date with Rayo Vallecano three days later.” Therefore, from this, we can tell they have no strong opposition.
The defeat however, left the already relegated West Ham in the 18th position.
