The Federal Government on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 affirmed it had no intention of proscribing Facebook over the supposed infringing comments by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, made this known while interacting with the State House correspondents, rounding off the Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting, as monitored by a Geeky Nigeria correspondent.
It might interest you to note that Alhaji Lai Mohammed had a deliberation with a delegation from Facebook in Abuja on Tuesday, when he charged the media outlet to prevail on IPOB not to take advantage of Facebook to stir up actions inimical to the peaceful coexistence of Nigerians.
In his words, “I had a very fruitful meeting with Facebook yesterday. At that meeting, we expressed our displeasure that Facebook was becoming a power choice for those who stay outside Nigeria, in particular, to incite violence, killing, burning of government properties, killing of soldiers and policemen. And that they should do more than what they’re doing now in looking at the contents which are unwholesome, which are being used on their platforms,” part of his response reads.
From the Minister’s media dialogue with the correspondents, it was learnt if Facebook fails to uphold the rules of engagement, government will not hesitate to do the needful.
