Lagos Student Passes Away From Alleged Beating By Teacher

A student of Simple Faith Secondary School in Lagos has passed on after he was said to have been “flogged” by a teacher over assignment.

The student, known as Emmanuel Amidu, 12, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

From a report as monitored by a Geeky Nigeria correspondent, Akinola Amidu, the deceased’s dad claimed his boy was whipped by a teacher in school on May 12, 2022.

The father asserted further that his son started throwing up immediately he was beaten and was taken to a hospital where he finally kicked the bucket.

The visibly devastated father requested the teacher’s arrest,  and maintained that the school was covering up the son’s demise, as it appeared the supposed Mathematics teacher was been shielded.

“I was at home that Thursday because I was on leave. I recalled that Emmanuel asked me for money to buy a new exercise book and give the remaining change to his sister,” the father’s statement read.

“Later that day, I was called by the management of the school that Emmanuel was vomiting. Meanwhile, this was a boy who left home without any health issues. I had to go to the school and we moved him to a hospital.”

“I later learned that the whole thing started after their class teacher, Mr. Steven, beat the whole of his class for not completing their Mathematics homework,” he added.

On the side of the school, Mr. Adetayo Àkànjí, the Principal of the school, responding on the case was quoted as saying it was “unfortunate.”

“I was there when Emmanuel died on Friday and it was unfortunate that it happened this way. Yes, Steven flogged the whole class for not doing their sums, but not with the intention to hurt them,” he maintained.

“When he started to vomit, the Proprietor called me and we took the boy to the hospital. In fact, the father joined us when he was taken to LUTH where he and I were running round to get the prescribed drugs for him,” he went further.

“But before we came back,he had given up. Our school reported the matter at the Morogbo Police Station,” the Principal concluded.
