As the year 2022 wraps up, it is a time for individuals, organizations, and nations to reflect and evaluate by comparing achievements with set goals.
The end of the year is always a time to ask ourselves how well, or how far, we have achieved lifelong goals. In 2022, Nigeria experienced different occurrences, some of which were heartwarming, while some were heart-wrenching.
January
Jan 12 – Former governor of Oyo State, Chief Christopher Alao Akala passes
A former governor of Oyo State Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala is dead. Alao-Akala was born in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, on June, 1950. Alao-Akala’s death was confirmed by sources close to his family.
He was aged 71 years old.Alao-Akala, once a former police officer, served as the Deputy Governor of Oyo State from May 2003 to January 2006.
February
Feb 19 – Buhari Returns from Belgium Trip
President Buhari returned to the country from Belgium. He arrived at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 5:25 p.m. and was welcomed by top government officials, including his chief of staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Mohammed Musa Bello, Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi and other senior government officials
President Muhammadu Buhari left the country on the 15th of February 2022, for a 4-day trip to Belgium, where he took part in the sixth Europe-Africa summit held in Brussels.
Feb 28 – FG flags off #1bn road improvement project in Ogbomosho:
Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, was joined by the governor of Kwara state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to flag off the construction of the 76.67 kilometres Ogbomosho-Fapote-Iseyin Road, where he stated that the project is of economic importance to both Oyo and Kwara states.
The project connects Ogbomosho, which is less than 30 minutes from Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, to Iseyin, a city in Oke Ogun zone of Oyo State, which also shares a boundary with Kwara.

March 28 – Abuja Kaduna Train Attack
Nigerians were thrown into mourning and despair on March 28, as a train with hundreds of passengers was attacked, with passengers kidnapped in Katari, Kaduna State, while others were killed and injured by bandits who bombed an Abuja-Kaduna train.
The terrorists, also known as bandits in Nigeria, planted explosives on the train track, immobilizing it, and then opened fire on passengers as they attempted to open the door.
The train had about 378 passengers on board and had left the train station, Abuja’s Idu station at 6 pm and was to arrive in Kaduna’s Rigasa train station by 8 pm before the unfortunate incident took place.
March 12 – Imo state local government election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Amajirionwu Blyden Okanni a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Ngor-Okpala House of Assembly bye-election of Imo State.
Ameh Dennis Akor, a Professor of Drama and Critical Theory and the returning officer, announced the results at Umuneke in the Council Headquarters of Ngor-Okpala LGA, saying that the APC candidate polled 9248 to defeat Jeff Nwachukwu of the PDP who polled 7071 votes.
