Today, I want to share with you a story of how my hope for a better Nigeria was doubled by the actions of its citizens.
For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in politics and have always hoped for a better future for my country.
Unfortunately, my peers would always shut me down, calling me mad for wanting to save a country they believed was beyond redemption. They didn’t understand my passion for my homeland and saw my decision not to leave the country as stupid.
Last year, I made a resolution to join a political party, but I couldn’t decide on which one to join. Additionally, I moved to Abuja and was unable to vote due to a new registration issue. This left me angry, but I refused to lose hope.
I decided to volunteer as an ad-hoc staff to participate in the election process. Unfortunately, I fell ill and was unable to continue.
But here’s the thing that surprised me and gave me hope for Nigeria’s future: my peers who had lost hope and didn’t care for the country surprised me. They joined political parties, organised political rallies, and even reached out to me for assistance from where I was.
They voted, volunteered for INEC, served as agents, and helped in monitoring the election process.
The youths of Nigeria were not just mere bystanders in the election; they were the most involved in demography. They proved that they care about their country and are willing to fight for its future.
With all the talk of leaving the country, it was refreshing to see that deep down, they still cared about Nigeria. I am proud to call Nigeria my country, and I believe that the hope for a better future is greater than ever.
So, I want to encourage you not to panic or lose hope, whether you’re happy with the election results or not.
The citizens’ eyes are now open, and no one can run us down anymore. Let’s continue to believe in the future of Nigeria and work towards making it a better place for everyone.
Remember, every small action counts, and we can all make a difference.
