The call to bring the immediate past deputy governor of Imo State, Gerald Irona to court, before the Owerri High Court was ruled out on Tuesday due to the absence of the case file.
Irona was held in Owerri prison custody by a Magistrate in Owerri C.N Ezerioha, on Thursday, due to appear before Justice S. I. Opara of Owerri High Court on Tuesday but the proposed Sitting could not take place as the matter was not in the court’s registry for the day.
Speaking on the Trial, the Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Kissinger Ikeokwu, said the ex-deputy governor would be appearing in court on Wednesday.
Ikeokwu said, “The sitting will now take place on Wednesday. The sitting couldn’t hold on Tuesday because we hurriedly filed on Friday and as a result could not be brought to court.”
Geeky Nigeria reports that the police in Imo state had brought Irona on Thursday at the Owerri Magistrates’ court on the count of treason, confiscation of the state government property and making statements to overthrow the governor of the state.
Application to grant Irona bail and a counter-bail application were declined by the magistrate who ordered that Irona be remanded in Owerri prison custody.
