The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is pushing forward with its plans to create a unified portal for all government services.
This initiative is part of the federal government’s goal to digitize 75% of government services by 2027. NITDA’s efforts follow previous attempts at creating centralized e-government platforms.
To achieve this goal, NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa emphasized the importance of researching successful models from countries like the UK and Kenya.
He highlighted the need to adapt these experiences to the Nigerian context, stressing that supporting legal frameworks, such as the use of APIs and dedicated portals, are crucial.
“If we want to achieve this, we need to have these laws in place and kickstart the process of enacting the laws in other to facilitate a smooth and effective digital transformation.
“This initiative is seen as a critical step towards enhancing efficiency, reducing corruption, and promoting transparency in government operations. By leveraging global best practices in alignment with national policies and digital transformation goals, Nigeria will have a smart, seamless and citizen-friendly government service experience,” he said.
NITDA is also collaborating with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to ensure alignment with global digital governance standards. The initiative aims to improve efficiency, reduce corruption, and increase transparency in government operations, ultimately creating a more citizen-friendly experience.
In a recent meeting, a delegation from the Ukrainian Embassy, led by Ambassador Ivan Kholostenko, discussed potential collaboration with NITDA.
Ukraine offered its experience with the “Diia” app, a comprehensive platform for all state registers, databases, and government services. Mr. Kholostenko expressed Ukraine’s willingness to support other countries in developing similar systems to reduce bureaucracy, processing times, and corruption risks.
