Apple introduced iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max with a striking new design that delivers a dramatic leap in performance.
Both models unveiled on September 9 feature A19 Pro, the most powerful and efficient chip for iPhone to date, enabling advanced camera systems and next level mobile gaming. A custom Apple designed vapor chamber is laser welded into a strong, light, and thermally conductive aluminum unibody to sustain higher speeds and extend battery life.
The rear system includes three 48 MP Fusion cameras, Main, Ultra Wide, and a new Telephoto, offering the equivalent of eight lenses. The setup delivers up to eight times optical quality zoom, the longest ever on iPhone, and an 18 MP Center Stage front camera elevates selfies and video capture.
New video features built for professional filmmakers and creators, including ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock, help iPhone fit smoothly into productions large and small. Both models add a Ceramic Shield 2 front cover with three times better scratch resistance, and for the first time Ceramic Shield also protects the back.
iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max come in deep blue, cosmic orange, and silver. Pre orders begin Friday, September 12, with availability starting Friday, September 19. “iPhone 17 Pro is by far the most powerful iPhone we have ever made, with a stunning new design rebuilt from the inside out to maximize performance and deliver an enormous leap in battery life,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
“With three 48 MP Fusion cameras, a new Center Stage front camera experience, and professional level video features, the creative opportunities are endless. iPhone 17 Pro sets a new standard for the smartphone industry and is a massive upgrade for our most demanding users.”
The brushed aluminum unibody uses a lightweight aerospace grade 7000 series alloy that delivers the best thermal performance yet in an iPhone. A subtle rear plateau creates more internal space for a larger battery, and perimeter integrated antennas provide Apple most capable antenna system so far. Inside, an Apple designed vapor chamber with deionized water is laser welded to the chassis to pull heat away from A19 Pro and spread it through the forged aluminum frame.

This helps manage power and surface temperatures for high performance while staying comfortable to hold. With the efficiency of A19 Pro and the power management of iOS 26, iPhone 17 Pro Max achieves the best battery life ever on an iPhone. Both models can charge to 50 percent in about 20 minutes with a high wattage USB C power adapter such as the new 40 W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60 W Max.
Displays are available in 6.3 inch and 6.9 inch sizes. The Super Retina XDR display is protected by Ceramic Shield 2, which is tougher than any smartphone glass or glass ceramic, and now includes an Apple designed coating for three times better scratch resistance plus improved anti reflection to reduce glare. The displays support ProMotion up to 120 Hz, Always On, 3000 nits peak outdoor brightness, and two times better outdoor contrast. Ceramic Shield now protects the back as well, delivering four times better crack resistance than previous back glass.
A19 Pro raises performance and efficiency for demanding tasks like gaming and video editing. The six core CPU is the fastest Apple has put in a smartphone. The six core GPU adds a larger cache and more memory than A18 Pro to deliver stunning graphics and higher frame rates in supported titles.
Connectivity steps forward with N1, a new Apple designed wireless chip that supports Wi Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. It also improves the performance and reliability of features such as Personal Hotspot and AirDrop.
The camera system expands creative range. Three 48 MP Fusion cameras capture sharper, more detailed images across lighting conditions. The new 48 MP Telephoto uses a next generation tetraprism design and a sensor that is 56 percent larger than the previous generation, improving sharpness in bright light and preserving detail in darker scenes.
You get classic 100 mm framing at four times optical zoom and extended reach at 200 mm with eight times optical quality zoom. The updated Photonic Engine preserves natural detail, reduces noise, and improves color accuracy. Digital zoom now reaches up to 40 times for photos, and next generation Photographic Styles add more options, including a new Bright style in iOS 26 that lifts skin tones and adds a pop of vibrance.
The brand new Center Stage front camera introduces the first square front sensor on iPhone for a wider field of view and higher resolution, up to 18 MP for photos. You can shoot photos and videos in portrait or landscape while holding the phone vertically. For group selfies, Center Stage for photos can automatically expand the field of view and rotate between portrait and landscape to include everyone.
It also enables ultra stabilized 4K HDR video, and Dual Capture lets you record with front and rear cameras at the same time, ideal for speaking to camera while showing behind the scenes. During calls in FaceTime and supported third party apps, Center Stage keeps you steady and framed.
Video capabilities remain industry leading. Alongside Dolby Vision HDR recording, 4K at 120 frames per second, ProRes Log, and ACES support, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are the first smartphones to support ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock. Genlock allows precise synchronization across multiple cameras and inputs for accurate transitions and advanced techniques without manual frame by frame alignment. Genlock works with the new Blackmagic Design Camera ProDock, and ProRes RAW is supported by Final Cut Camera and Blackmagic Camera, with APIs available to developers.
eSIM provides a flexible and secure connection. It is supported by more than 500 carriers worldwide, including AT and T, T Mobile, and Verizon. eSIM only models of iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be available in Bahrain, Canada, Guam, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United States, and the United States Virgin Islands.
These models include a larger battery that takes advantage of the space previously used by the physical SIM tray and can provide up to 39 hours of video playback. eSIM also makes travel simpler with affordable international roaming or local prepaid options from more than 200 carriers. Because eSIM cannot be physically removed, it offers added protection if an iPhone is lost or stolen. iOS 26 introduces a streamlined setup for travel eSIMs.
iOS 26 brings a refreshed visual design with Liquid Glass effects and useful updates to everyday apps. New tools let you capture a screenshot and quickly search or act on what is on screen.
