The pressure for the title race champion was on Arsenal and Manchester City.
Arsenal handled their own pressure well, without failing to meet expectations. However, that wasn’t the case for Pep Guardiola’s team.
With Arsenal securing a 1-0 victory over Burnley, all pressure shifted to City’s side. They knew that anything below victory would terminate their quest for the trophy.

On Monday night,18th May, at Emirates Stadium Arsenal scored a decisive lone goal to win against Burnley. However, this goal by Kai Havertz didn’t just secure a victory over Burnley, it was a history-changing goal.
This was a historic triumph which brought back the trophy to North London for the first time since the famous 2003/04 “Invincible” campaign.
In addition to that, this victory earned them three points. According to Dogil Wilberforce, on heavy.com/sports, “Manager Mikel Arteta saw his side move to 82 points after the victory over Burnley.” USA Today described it as “a four-point unbeatable advantage.”
Man City Vs Bournemouth
Man City stumbled into a draw with Bournemouth. This came as a late equaliser by Erling Haaland at the 95th minute which cancelled Junior Kroupi’s score in the 39th minute.
Pep Guardiola’s team faced a must-win situation. Despite this, they let it slip off their hands as they faced The Cherries on Tuesday at Vitality Stadium. The draw earned them one point. However, the single point earned killed their hope for the title race champion.
While we saw resilience in The Cherries, frustration was clearly seen in City. If not for the rebound which Erling directed to the net at almost the finish time, it could have been a defeat.
They are now four points behind the Gunners. With just one match remaining, and the possibility of earning three points if they win, City has mathematically given up the title race. Instead, they will emerge as the first runner-up but will never win the title race this season.

According to an article on Heavy.com/sports, “The result pushed Arsenal five points clear at the top of the Premier League table with one match left.”
EPL reported that there was a possibility of Arsenal winning the title race before the last fixture with Crystal Palace.
According to the article on the EPL website,
“There is the possibility they could secure the title before playing Palace, though.
This is because if Man City drop points at AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday 19 May, then the Gunners will be crowned champions before playing again on Sunday.” Arsenal Won the League
This was exactly what happened! So even before the end of the season’s matchweek, winners have emerged.
Conclusion
For three consecutive seasons, the Gunners have always been runners-up to Man City. However, this season, they crossed the mark to emerge as winners. This championship is also Mike Arteta’s first Premier League trophy as manager.
The final fixtures will be on Sunday, 24th May 2026. While Arsenal will play against Crystal Palace, Man City will play against Aston Villa. However, City being four points behind Gunners cannot win the title even if they defeat Aston Villa.
The match on Sunday will be a coronation ceremony for Arsenal.
