The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has advised Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) on the registration of their businesses with the .ng domain name .
Mr Mohammed Rudman, President, NiRA revealed that it would boost the online presence of the SME.
Rudman said that with the lockdown some medium enterprises could not generate income due to lack of online presence.
Açcording to him, the domain name would not only boost their online presence but also boost the economy especially registering with the .ng domain name.
He said the association had maintained the normal frequency of monthly registration of the domain name so there was no negative or positive Impact during the pandemic.
Rudman said that there was need for more sensitisation and promotions in the need for a domain name.
‘’We are hoping that with the ease of COVID 19 lockdown small businesses will start picking up the ng. domain name for registration.
‘’As we all know, small businesses usually patronise the social media such as Instagram, Facebook, Watsapp to showcase their businesses.
‘’We are hoping that after the pandemic people would begin to pick up the domain name especially those who generate revenue, such as restaurant, small businesses were affected by the pandemic,’’ Rudman said.
Açcording to him, the SMEs would begin to see the need for a domain name registration.
Rudman said that NiRA was also working on a market initiative to promote the .ng domain name and create visibility across the country through promotions and sensitisation.
He said it was because when people were aware of your products that they would purchase.
The president said that the focus was on small and medium enterprises to purchase the domain name and have an online presence.
