On February 15, 2023, Meta will discontinue its Cameo-like app, Super, a live-streaming platform for influencers, launched in 2020.
According to the firm, when it started working on Super in 2020, it wanted to create a digital meet-and-greet experience that was comparable to what you would have at a real-world convention like VidCon or Comic-Con.
“What we found we’d created, however, was a much greater opportunity for creators and fans to connect in a fun and exciting ways,” the company said in a statement.
“We saw creators and fans raise funds for good causes, launch a new set of books, test drive new jokes for standup routines, and even play trivia against one another. It was amazing to see the joy and creativity in each new Super event.
“Sadly, however, the time has come for us to say goodbye. We hope you’ve enjoyed using Super as much as we enjoyed building it for you.”
Users won’t be able to add new events while Super is down, even though the downtime won’t be complete until February. The business advises customers to reschedule events they have scheduled on Super for a later date on another platform.
Users who took part in a Super event or hosted one, according to Meta, can retrieve their recorded video before the business formally shuts down its website in February.
Geeky Nigeria reports that Super is the latest experiment and application to be taken down by Meta this year. On October 1, the company discontinued its Facebook live shopping service concentrating on Reels.
Facebook discontinued its separate gaming app in October as well, two years after it was first released. The Nextdoor clone Neighborhoods, created by Meta to standardize how neighbors communicate and exchange local news and information on Facebook, was shut down in September.
Tuned, Meta’s social app for couples was shut down in July, a little over two years after it first debuted. Campus, Facebook’s exclusive social network for college students, was shut down in March. Sparked, the company’s video speed-dating service was discontinued in January.
