The University of Maiduguri Governing Council has officially approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Mele as the substantive Vice-Chancellor.
This was announced in a statement by the University’s Registrar, Ahmad Lawan during a special meeting where four candidates were interviewed, leading to a recommendation from the Joint Council and Senate selection committee.
According to Lawan, Professor Mele’s appointment takes effect immediately.
“The Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri at its special meeting held on Wednesday 18th September 2024 has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University“.
The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor is a Professor of English language and Linguistics with over two decades of dedicated service in teaching, research and community services.
Prior to this appointment, he served as the acting Vice Chancellor and held various academic and administrative roles, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Central Administration.
