Covenant University, a prestigious higher institution, formally welcomed 2,449 new students on Friday, January 31, 2025, as they matriculated into various undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Notably, this academic session also marked the historic debut of Covenant University’s Open and Distance e-Learning platform, as the institution proudly welcomed its inaugural cohort of students enrolled in this innovative program.
In his welcome address, the Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Regents, Dr. David O. Oyedepo, warmly greeted the incoming students, reaffirming Covenant University’s unwavering commitment to nurturing visionary leaders who will shape the future with purpose and excellence.
Dr. Oyedepo advised the freshers to wholeheartedly embark on their academic journey, challenging them to aim high and become transformative leaders who would positively impact the world.
“We have, in this community, potential world-changers in the making. My prayer is that none of you will feel out of place here.
“May God’s purpose in bringing you here be fully realized. This reform mandate is the foundation of our philosophy, which focuses on a transition from mere form to skill, knowledge, to empowerment – towards building a sustainable future, and moving from legalism to realism,” he said.
Dr. David O. Oyedepo emphasized Covenant University’s seven core values during his address: Spirituality, Possibility Mentality, Capacity Building, Responsibility, Integrity, Diligence, and Sacrifice.
He particularly urged new students to uphold integrity in all aspects of university life, warning against examination malpractice, which is considered a serious offense punishable by immediate expulsion.
Dr. Oyedepo further elaborated on the University’s unique programs, including Total Man Concept (TMC), Entrepreneurial Development Studies (EDS), Leadership Development Studies (LDS), and The Turning Point Gathering (TTG).
He explained that TMC empowers students to live life to the fullest and develop problem-solving skills, while EDS equips them with entrepreneurial skills to earn a legitimate income. LDS focuses on cultivating visionary leaders, and TTG serves as a life-coaching program.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anake, emphasized that matriculation marks the beginning of an exciting academic journey and a purpose-driven life at Covenant University.
He reaffirmed the institution’s unwavering commitment to raising a new generation of leaders equipped to tackle real-world challenges and drive transformative change globally.
The Ogun State Coordinator of JAMB, Mr. Hakeem Abdulhamid, attended the matriculation ceremony of Covenant University, where he congratulated the institution for its compliance with JAMB’s Central Admission Policy (CAP).
