Dr Mohammed Yahuza, the new Pro-chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has vowed to make the university one of the best in Nigeria.
Yahuza, who doubles as the Chairman of the Governing Council of FUOYE assured this while inspecting the available infrastructure at the university in Oye and Ikole-Ekiti campuses.
He expressed his delightment with the rapid development of the institution and commmended the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Soremekun for his hard work and commitment.
Yahuza appreciated the warm reception he received from the staff of the university, which according to him, proved that “there is harmony and unity between the vice chancellor and the staff”.
He reassured both the staff and the management of the institution of his commitment to work with them and take the university to an enviable height.
“I am delighted with the infrastructure that I have seen in the two campuses, and in fact, the facilities are splendid.
“Also, the effort of the management to utilise available resources to complete the infrastructure is highly commendable.
“I am very optimistic that in the next three to four years when we will come back for inspection, we will be seeing a different university that can be compared with any of the first generation universities in Nigeria.
“I have also seen the relationship between the vice chancellor and members of the management. The way they have supported us shows that there is harmony among, the staff, which is very unusual in an academic environment.
“I want to appeal to the staff to give the management the necessary support so that they can do more,” he said.
Prof. Kayode Soremekun, the university’s vice chancellor, who is currently embattled with Akure ASUU, expressed his delight with the commendations given to him by the new pro-chancellor.
“I am very happy. My tenure is currently running out and for the pro-chancellor to have lauded the level of infrastructure in the university, proved that I have been able to make an impact.
“This is in terms of my performance in the over four years that have been in the university.
“Despite various distractions, we are ranked very high in the university system and we do not only want to be ranked high in Nigeria, but we want to be so ranked globally.
“I expect the same level of cooperation we had with the former chairman of the governing council to continue so that the university will move further to greater heights,” he said.
